The Law Library is open to the public. Non-Howard patrons must sign in at security desk. Patrons have access to all library resources except the computer labs, laptops, and study rooms, which can only be used by current Howard University School of Law (HUSL) Students.
Circulation
The Circulation Desk, located on the first floor of the Library at the foot of the main staircase, is where all transactions for borrowing and returning materials take place. Any Circulation transactions not completed by closing will be credited to the next day and fines may accrue.
Lending Policy
The majority of the Law Library collection does not circulate. In particular, the following items may not be checked out: parts of a series, parts of multi-volume sets, items supplemented with pocket parts, loose-leaf items, and bound supplements.
There are four types of material that can be checked out:
Circulating monographs may be checked out to HU students and faculty only.
Reserve items may be checked out and used in the library for up to 3 hours by HU students with a valid Capstone ID and public patrons who leave a valid photo ID at the circulation desk. The following valid ID's will be accepted from public patrons to check out reserve items: driver's license, state issued ID, a student or faculty university ID, a federal, state, or local government employee ID, or a Bar member card. RESERVE ITEMS MAY NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF THE LAW LIBRARY.
Study rooms can only be checked-out by CURRENT (HUSL) LAW STUDENTS!
Only CURRENT (HUSL) LAW STUDENTS can check out laptop computers!
Shelve Assistance
Books are shelved promptly. If you are unable to locate a book, journal, or magazine at the given location, you may request assistance by filling out the shelf assistance form below. There is a twenty four hour turn around time for requests.
